K2 racers top provincial championships

While the Whistler Mountain Ski Club didn't sweep any podiums at the Teck K2 Provincial Championships last weekend at Panorama, they came close a few times.

While the Whistler Mountain Ski Club didn't sweep any podiums at the Teck K2 Provincial Championships last weekend at Panorama, they came close a few times.

In the opening super G race, the WMSC's Alix Well and Emma King were first and second respectively, with Rae Swette, Charley Field, Kelly Steeves and Elianne Taillefer rounding out the top 15 in sixth, 11 th , 12 th and 14 th respectively.

After their second trip down the course Emma King and Alix Wells switched spots on the podium. Charley Field moved up to fifth, Kelly Steeves was sixth, Elianne Taillefer 11 th and Rae Swette 13 th .

In the opening men's super G, Brodie Seger and Logan Pehota placed second and third respectively, with Martin Grasic of Invermere - the son of national ski coach Dusan Grasic - taking the win by around 1.4 seconds. Blake Ramsden was third, Charlie Renzoni fifth, Kyle Yates seventh, Dalton Pehota ninth and Bryan Cadman 11 th .

The next day featured one women's SG race and two men's events.

Alix Wells reclaimed the top step of the podium, while Charley Field continued to climb the ladder to third place. Rae Swette was fourth, Celeste Pomerantz sixth, Keely Steeves seventh and Elianne Taillefer 10 th .

The two men's races were similar to day one with Martin Grasic winning both races by solid margins of more than a second. Blake Ramsden and Brodie Seger placed second and third in the first race, with Logan Pehota fourth, Kyle Yates seventh, Carlie Renzoni eighth, Bryan Cadman ninth, Dalton Pehota 10 th and Ben Bethune 12 th .

In race number two Brodie Seger and Logan Pehota placed second and third with Blake Ramsden dropping to fourth, just 0.04 seconds back of Pehota. Bryan Cadman was eighth, Dalton Pehota ninth and Kyle Yates 10 th .

The next event was the giant slalom with races on Saturday and Sunday.

In the first women's event Alix Wells won both runs to finish first by more than 1.5 seconds. Kelly Steeves was third for the WMSC. Rae Swette was fifth, Charley Field eighth, Emma King ninth and Celeste Pomerantz 12 th .

Blake Ramsden won the men's race by close to two seconds, with Brodie Seger finishing third. Bryan Cadman was fifth and Kyle Yates ninth.

Alix Wells picked up her fourth gold medal in five races in the second women's race on Sunday, followed by Kelly Steeves. Rae Swette was fifth, Carley Field seventh, Emma King 10 th .

Martin Grasic completed his gold medal sweep in the second men's GS, while Blake Ramsden and Brodie Seger picked up their fourth medals by finishing second and third respectively. Charlie Renzoni was seventh, Bryan Cadman eighth, Logan Pehota ninth, Kyle Yates 10 th , Marc Leroux 11 th and Dalton Pehota 15 th .

The top K2 racers from the nationals are given the opportunity to join Team Canada at the Whistler Cup international juvenile ski races in April. Other skiers will join the B.C. Team or will race for their clubs.
