The Whistler Mountain Ski Club has a new clothing sponsor, the club announced this week. Schure Sports Inc., which manufactures Karbon ski and training wear, and the ski club signed an agreement through to 2010.

The partnership means that the $30,000 spent each year for coaches’ uniforms will be funnelled back into processional coaching development programs and other initiatives to support local skiers.

"Naturally we are very pleased to partner with Karbon, a leading supporter of amateur skiing in Canada," said Nigel Cooper, WMSC program director. "Thanks to Karbon we are able to invest deeper into our members and we look forward to seeing the positive results in the coming years."

According to Peter Schure, the resort and team co-ordinator for Schure Sports, the partnership will increase the company’s visibility in North America while providing an avenue to research and test new fabrics and technologies.

"WMSC will be one of several elite teams that will partner with us in researching and developing new fabrics and technologies that will give Karbon an unprecedented level in active apparel," said Schure.

The WMSC already has a long list of sponsors. Locally, Canski, Snow Covers and Wild Willies help athletes meet their equipment needs. Equipment suppliers include Atomic, Nordica, Rossignol, Salomon, Dynastar, Elan, Head and Volkl.

Sierra Wireless also support the club in hosting the Sierra Wireless Whistler Cup.
