Re: “Deniers are all over the map; climate realists all over the world

1. Consensus is not science. Science is not consensus. Science is about facts and reproduceable results. Any time I start hearing about consensus, I start looking at who's getting paid for what. No one says a consensus of scientist say that E=MC2. People start invoking consensus when there's not enough hard data. To a scientist, consensus is completely irrelevant.

2. Environmental groups are a multi-billion dollar industry in their own right with absolutely zero oversight.

3. "Those who argue that seven billion people pumping massive amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere aren't having a serious negative impact are out to lunch."

Nice statement, sounds logical, you have data, or peer-reviewed studies to back that up? Because I can hand you reams of data saying otherwise.

4. "and blanket the media with opinion articles, letters to editors and comments, often referring to misleading charts and graphs"

You mean like the infamous hockey stick graph? What about the scientists manipulating the raw data to account for things like the urban heat island effect? This would never be acceptable for a drug company, why should it be any more acceptable for organizations clamoring for the worlds governments to spend hundreds of trillions of dollars fighting climate change?

I love this planet. I want a clean atmosphere. I don't think that exaggerating the problem is the way to go. The human race has been decarbonizing for centuries, and will continue to do so. We need to take a very cold and dispassionate view going forward.

I grew up in a scientific family, with both parents working in the McIntyre building at McGill University. You were one of my childhood idols but your recent change, about a decade or so, towards radicalization instead of rationalization has thoroughly disheartened me. You've gone from being a serious open-minded scientist to one spouting ad-hominem attacks on any industry that you see as counter to your own personal views.
