Although many regular faces were missing — no doubt
tired out from a 30 centimetre snowfall that day — 35 die hard jibbers
turned out to the second King of the Rail event this past Saturday, Jan. 6.
The skiers and riders who took part voted for the winners in
each age group, with the athlete receiving the most votes getting a cut of the
prize money based on the number of people in their grouping.
Nicolas Charrois won the Ski Male 16 and Over category. Andrew
Geers was the top Male 16 and Over snowboarder, Max Horner was the top Ski
Youth 15 and Under, and Jared Braverman was the top Snowboard Youth 15 and
Under. Yuki Tsubota was the top Ski Female All Ages, while Jennie Kwaswecha was
the top Snowboard Female.
Chris McCourt won the draw prize for the Sapient snowboard.
The next King of the Rail is Saturday, Jan. 20. The cost to
enter is $5 with a valid Night Moves ticket, and registration gets underway at
5 p.m. at the Blackcomb Daylodge.
Kids 17 and under will need a parent or guardian present to
sign a waiver.
The contest starts at 6 p.m. at the base of the mountain and wraps up at 7:30 p.m. with the final vote. Participants get as many runs as they can fit in during that time.
