The street leading to Spruce Grove Park and the softball diamonds there is being named after former Whistler councillor Max Kirkpatrick.

Whistler council announced Monday the street will be named Kirkpatrick Road, in recognition of Kirkpatrick’s long-time involvement in softball in Whistler.

Kirkpatrick, who was on council from 1993 to 1996, was president of the Whistler Slo-pitch League for several years and was a strong supporter of the development of Spruce Grove Park. The park has become a major centre for slo-pitch tournaments, including the Co-ed C Division National Championships which were held at Spruce Grove in 1998.
