There's a moment every season when hundreds of skiers sit bolt upright in bed and realize that the Peak to Valley race is just weeks away — and they haven't raced a single gate.
That won't be a problem for the skiers that turned out for the second Kokanee Valley Race Series Event of the season on Jan. 5 — a giant slalom on the Ptarmigan run. There are two more races this month, including today's GS on Blackcomb on Jan. 12 and the Jan. 26 GS on Lower Franz's.
The cost is $29 if you pre-register online or at Guest Relations, and event day registration is $35. On mountain registration is available until 9:45 a.m. at the Rendezvous for Blackcomb races, and in the trailer on top of the Garbanzo Express for Whistler races.
Helmets are mandatory for all events. The apres race party is at the Mountain Club in the Westin Resort and Spa, and a chance to win draw prizes.
