If you want some insider tips on the best downhill lines and chutes and also happen to be female, you are welcome to join the Whistler Freeride team "ladies day" on Jan. 7 for a session of action and adventure on the mountain.
The event is one of five open days being offered this season, whereby members of the resort’s pro team take keen local snowboarders and skiers up the hill so they can "fly with the best." Team co-ordinator Sherry Newstead says it’s a chance for the athletes to give something back to the valley in terms of sharing knowledge and raising money.
"Ladies Day is free but all donations go to the local charity KidSport, which helps children who otherwise would not be able to afford to ski or board."
Fifty per cent of any pictures bought from the accompanying Coast Mountain photographer will also go to KidSport, she added.
A similar Ladies Day event held two years ago by Whistler-Blackcomb attracted between 30 and 40 participants and Newstead is confident this year’s event will also be popular.
"It’s all about having fun plus you get to meet new people, possibly check out new terrain and get technique tips for those who want them."
