Whistler's Justin Lamoureux was Canada's top boarder at the Nokia Snowboard World Cup in Stoneham, Quebec last weekend, turning a lot of bad luck into good.
When he arrived in Quebec, Lamoureux discovered that his bags and snowboard didn't get on the same plane. He was forced to borrow another athlete's board for the big air finals, where Lamoureux finished ninth out of almost 30 competitors.
Right after that competition, his borrowed board was stolen.
The airlines tracked down his stuff, so at least he had his own equipment back the next day for the halfpipe.
Lamoureux was solid, landed a huge backside air, a front side 900, and back to back sevens to finish fifth overall.
"I'm having a fun weekend riding, but not having that great of a time when I get off the snow," said Lamoureux. "I was happy with my result and it was lots of fun to compete at home."
Lamoureux was joined in the finals by Hugo Lemay of Beauport, Quebec, who finished 10 th .
In the women's halfpipe, Whistler's Dominique Vallee was the only Canadian to finish in the top-10, taking the eighth spot.
None of the Canadians qualified for the finals in the parallel giant slalom the following day.
