Last week of Celebration 2010 

It’s been an action-packed few weeks in Whistler Village but the show’s not over until the fat lady sings "It’s Ours!"

Celebration 2010 offers the community and visiting delegates the chance to see what Whistler has to offer in terms of arts, culture, and entertainment during the world’s biggest winter sports event.

During the three week festival, many of Whistler’s proud and popular societies and community groups have and will display their world-class talents.

Here’s a snapshot of what’s still to come:

Friday, Feb. 28,10:30 a.m.

Whistler Public Library presents Storytime, for pre-school children.

Friday, Feb. 28 at the base of Whistler Mountain, 8 p.m.

Whistler Dance Academy presents Dance Media On The Slopes. A multi-media contemporary professional dance that includes live dance, video and slide projection onto the performers and the show. Admission is free.

Saturday, March 1, 1-3:30 p.m. at MY Place

Weetama, a unique encounter with ancient cultures and their traditional songs stories and dances. A basket making and tools workshop and a Herbology, talk.

Saturday, March 1, 7:30 p.m. at MY Place

Rhythm, Spirit and Soul, timeless traditional dances, stories and songs featuring Juno nominee Marcel Gagnon and world champion hoop dancer, Alex Wells. Tickets are $19.95 for adults, $14.95 for kids under 12. Ph: 604-935-8418.

Sunday, March 2, 10 a.m., meet at MY Place

Whistler Arts Council presents the Whistler Art Tour, a free guided tour of the town’s art galleries and public art displays. Ph: 604-935-8419.

Sunday, March 2, 1:30-3:30 p.m., Mountain Square

Carving demonstrations of stone into art by Mount Currie carver, Carl Sam.

Sunday, March 2, 3-5 p.m., MY Place

Aboriginal storytellers recount their ancient legends with children’s stories, an arrowhead demonstration and an elders talk.

Sunday, March 2, 6:30 p.m. at base of Whistler Mountain

Fire & Ice - Whistler Welcome Night. An eclectic mix of music, dance and spinning fire with athletes flipping and twisting through a burning ring of fire.

Thursday, March 6, 7:30 p.m. at MY Place

Slide Show by John Baldwin, author of The Mountains of the Coast and The Coast Mountains on Skis presented by Whistler Public Library. Tickets are $7. Ph: 604-935-8418

Face to Face, a clay exhibit by Glen McMillan and paintings by Toya Harris.

March 1-6 at MY Place

Second Annual Photography Exhibition, profiling 17 local photographers from the professional to the amateur, all with an eye for our surrounding mountains’ magic.

Daily at MY Place

Whistler Museum & Archives Society presents an exhibition of "Hats & Helmets" from past Olympic Games.

Nightly in the village

Whistler Photographic Society presents an outdoor digital slide show capturing Whistler and mountain sports by our top professional photographers. Admission is free. Ph: 604-935-8419
