Dust off your dancing shoes and head to The Point for live salsa music and dance lessons on Sunday, Dec. 16.

The evening is a follow-up to the Tango Night event the Alta Lake venue hosted earlier this summer, says Stephen Vogler, artistic director at The Point.

"I didn't realize how popular a dancing event would be," Vogler says in a release. "People came out in droves with their dancing shoes on, ready to learn some new moves and have fun on the old hardwood dancefloor."

Winnie Cheung, an international touring pianist and composer who will be visiting Whistler from Indiana, will once again lead the evening. Vancouver dance instructors Amy Cheung and Greg Dombowsky will also be on hand to show the crowd a few moves.

Tickets for the evening show, including a light tapas dinner, will be $25, or $15 for kids ages 12 and under. They're available at thepointartists.com or at Armchair books. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Join the Singapalooza

Whistler's rock 'n' roll choir is cranking up the holiday cheer with a Holiday Singapalooza on Sunday, Dec. 9.

Barbed Choir is hosting the sing-along to lead the community in holiday pop songs, culminating in a "quick and easy version" of "Baby Please Come Home" with harmonies.

The all-ages event will include hot, festive drinks and holiday treats. Entry is by food or cash donation to the food bank. Doors are at 6:30 p.m. and the event runs from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Maury Young Arts Centre.

For more information, search Holiday Singapalooza with Barbed Choir on Facebook.

Orphans' Christmas Party

Are you far away from home this Christmas?

The Whistler Public Library wants to bring some holiday cheer to locals with its Orphans' Christmas Party on Tuesday, Dec. 11 from 6 to 9 p.m.

The free event will include a gingerbread-house decorating contest, complete with Christmas songs, treats and a screening of Home Alone.

Registration is required for the contest at 6 p.m., but those dropping by for the 7 p.m. film don't need to register.

Call the library at 604-935-8435 to register.
