The Whistler Legacies Society, which will oversee the long-term operations of the multi-million dollar sliding track and Nordic centre, has been incorporated.
The society was made official on March 14.
Seven organizations have opted to be a part of it. They are: the Resort Municipality of Whistler, the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Games, the provincial government, Squamish Nation, Lil’wat Nation, the Canadian Olympic Committee and the Canadian Paralympic Committee.
Both the government of Canada and the city of Vancouver opted out of the society.
Each party will have one equal vote at the board table.
As part of the Multiparty Agreement for the Games, the province and the federal government each committed $55 million to a Legacy Endowment Fund. That money will fund the Whistler Sliding Centre, the Whistler Nordic Centre, the athletes’ centre and the Richmond speed skating oval post-Games. It is not yet clear how the money will be divided.
The first board meeting for the incorporated society took place on Friday, March 30 in Vancouver.
