The passing of our son Kelty Patrick Dennehy, to a safer place, has once again brought out the best in our community. Someone said to us the other day, that we've chosen to move away from our families to come to Whistler and in building the community here have chosen new friends to love and care for.

I've observed that this event has given some of us a new perspective, a refocus on what is really important in our lives. The day to day scramble and haggle saps our humanness and I have taken greater faith in the past weeks seeing family and friends alike come forward, overflowing with love and humanness from reservoirs deep down within.

Our family thanks you, Whistler. Without naming anyone, you know who you are. Some worked 20 hours a day to make the service happen. A card, a kind word sent with flowers, a cheque to the trust fund, a name on a casserole dish, were all just as meaningful.

Ginny and I will be learning more about teenage depression in the months to come in order to help others protect their own from this devastating disorder. We will keep you posted, but in the meantime, be vigilant and contact us if you ever need to talk.

We wanted to share two more things with you before we sign off. The first is an excerpt from a letter from the British Columbia Transplant Society and the second a prayer.

"Because you have so generously agreed to organ donation on behalf of your son, two people with severe renal failure received kidney transplants, one person received a life-saving liver transplant, another received a life-saving heart transplant and yet another person received a life-saving lung transplant. To date, all these people continue to do well and would not have survived without your gift. In addition, the corneas were retrieved, allowing two people to regain their eyesight."

Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.

Where there is hatred, let me sow love;

Where there is injury, pardon;

Where there is doubt, faith;

Where there is despair, hope;

Where there is darkness, light;

And where there is sadness, joy.

O Devine Master,

Grant that I may not so much

Seek to be consoled as to console;

To be understood as to understand;

To be loved as to love;

For it is in giving that we receive;

It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;

And it is in dying that we are

born to Eternal life.
