A valuable resource

Whistler Public Library

Have you checked out our new Web site and online catalogue? You no longer need to come in to the library to see if we own a book or to see if it is in. Just check out our catalogue on the Internet at www.whistlerlibrary.ca .

If the book you want is checked out, you can place a hold on it over the Internet. You can check your library record and renew materials you have out, if no one is waiting for them.

A valuable resource on our Web site is access to electronic databases. The library pays an annual licensing fee so you don’t have to. These databases are not accessible for free on the Internet. On our Web site, all you need is your library card.

This service provides access to thousands of magazines and journals. You can look up subjects and read articles anytime day or night.

How does it work? A search for "snowboarding" and "Whistler" in the Canadian Business and Current Affairs database found 106 full text articles, ranging from July 14, 2003 back to March 21, 1994. A search on "skiing" and "Whistler" on Ebsco, a U.S. database, found 57 full text articles, ranging from Michel Beaudry’s article in October 2003 Ski magazine to Allan Fotheringham’s column in Maclean’s January 14, 1991.

Access to these articles is available through your computer at home or work as well as in the library. Our professional staff is happy to help you find the information you are looking for on the databases.
