One Library Card coming soon

Did you know that as a member of the Whistler Public Library you have access not only to the materials at the Whistler Public Library but to those of any InterLINK libraries?

InterLINK is a federated public library system. It is a partnership of the following 17 libraries: Bowen Island, Burnaby, Coquitlam, Fraser Valley, Gibsons, New Westminister, North Vancouver City, North Vancouver District, Pemberton, Port Moody, Richmond, Sechelt, Squamish, Surrey, West Vancouver, Whistler.

You will soon be able to use your Whistler Public Library card at any of the above libraries. The member libraries have been working on a One Library Card project which we hope to implement by September 2004. Until then you must join each library that you wish to borrow from. You are eligible to do this if you live in a community served by InterLINK, or if you have a valid library card at any InterLINK library. When you borrow materials you may return them to any InterLINK library, but they are not cleared from your record until they reach the lending library.

That means that you can borrow videos from the West Vancouver Memorial Library and return them to Whistler (by the due date). There is no charge to use InterLINK as it is funded by member libraries and a grant from Library Services Branch of the Ministry of Community, Aboriginal and Women's Services.

If you can't get to another library to borrow what you need, we can also place an Interlibrary Loan request for you. Our library has online access to the collections of 60 libraries in British Columbia with a total of 4 million records. Once you find what you want on the B.C. Libraries Catalogue, you can make the request in the library or on our Web site www.whistlerlibrary.ca . To access the provincial catalogue, go to Resources and Tools , and click on BC Libraries Catalogue .

To request a title, go to About the Library and click on Interlibrary Loans. Most loans are free of charge and arrive within two weeks of request. If you cannot find what you are looking for on the catalogue, please come to the library. We can try to find the book in a library somewhere else in Canada. Some restrictions and charges apply to certain materials.
