Find a good book

We have recently added a new search capability on our online library catalogue – Find a Good Book . To access the lists, go to www.whistlerlibrary.ca and click on the red GO button. This will take you directly to our catalogue. There are six headings to choose from – select Find a Good Book and you will find two pages of booklists of award-winning titles. All the titles listed in each category are available at the library. When you click on the list title, you will have a list of the titles at the library. If you see a title you want more information on, just click on the title or the cover art. From there you will see if the book is in, if out, when it is due. You can place a request from the Web site and we will notify you when the book is returned. For many titles, there is more information to be found in a box to the left of the detailed title information. There is often a summary, first chapter excerpts, critical reviews, information on the characters, setting, genre, setting, time period, and awards received.

If you like to read good books by B.C. authors, check out the winners of the Bill Duthie Booksellers’ Choice awards, the Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize, the Hubert Evans Non-Fiction Prize, or the VanCity Book Prize. We also have listed the winners of the Giller Prize, the Governor General’s awards for both fiction and non-fiction, the Man Booker Prize, and the Pulizter prizes for fiction and non-fiction. Oprah’s Book Club and New Book Club are listed as well as the titles in the CBC Canada Reads contest. If you love a good mystery, check out the Anthony Award Winners and the Edgar Prize Winners. Science fiction fans can look at the titles that won the Hugo or Nebula award.

This site will be added to on a regular basis and we hope that you will find it useful.

Adopt-a-book

Thanks to everyone who "adopted" a book at the Bizarre Bazaar on the weekend and to the Friends of the Library who worked at the library’s table. If you didn’t get a chance to adopt a book at the Bizarre Bazaar you can do so at the library. This is the ideal gift for someone who has everything and doesn’t want a gift. You can adopt a book in their name (prices range from $15 to $50) and we will give you a card to fill in and give to your friend or relative, and when the library purchases the new book, we will attach a bookplate acknowledging that the book was "adopted" by your friend.

We also have sturdy and attractive book bags for sale. They are black and grey or burgundy and black. There is a zipper and pocket on the front. The straps are long enough to slip over your shoulder. They are available for the reasonable price of $20.

Holiday program

The children’s holiday program for Dec. 11 th is already full. You are more than welcome to attend the special storytime on that day, however your child will not be able to participate in the craft activity as space is very limited.
