The Whistler Public Library, Pemberton Public Library and Sea to Sky Economic Development Commission have both gone on line. The Whistler library’s internet access is through Whistler Networks, which is providing a complimentary account. Internet users at the library will be charged a $2 per hour access fee. The user-friendly service will provide public access to the World Wide Web as well as libraries around the world. The internet access adds to the library’s word processing computers, available for $5 per hour, and a new laser printer. The library also has a CD ROM player now. CD ROMs will likely become more and more common in the library because they can store whole encyclopedias worth of information. The Canadian phone directories are already available in the library on CD ROM, as is a periodical index to 90 magazines and journals. Copies of articles in those magazines can be requested at no charge through the B.C. Library loan system. The library also has music CDs, which may be borrowed, and books on tape. Meanwhile, a new World Wide Web site, Sea to Sky Facts and Figures, is now available on line. The web site is was set up by the Sea to Sky Economic Development Commission, with funding support from the Ministry of Small Business, Tourism and Culture and BC Rail Properties. It provides entrepreneurs and business people with economic tables, a regional map and photos of local businesses and business opportunities. The web site is also linked to the ministry’s small business service centre database, which provides information on marketing, financing and regulating businesses. The address is http://www.mountaininter.net/-ssedc. The Pemberton Public Library also recently went on line. The library is looking for people with computer experience to assist novice computer users with the library's system.
