Library’s Latest

Whatever you’re looking for we have it

Are you stumped about what to read next? The next time you are in the library, just ask one of our staff members for a recommendation, or pick up one of our bookmarks with recommended authors.

For example, if you like the political thrillers of Robert Ludlum, why not try Dale Brown, Tom Clancy, Clive Cussler, Len Deighton, Ken Follett, Frederick Forsyth, John Le Carre or David Morrell.

Have you read all of Patricia Cornwell’s thrillers featuring forensic detective Kay Scarpetta? If so, try one of the following authors: Robin Cook, Jeffrey Deaver, Aaron Elkins, Iris Johansen, Ridley Pearson or Kathy Reichs.

Are you a fan of historical fiction like that of Diana Gabaldon? You may want to try Marion Zimmer Bradley, Sara Donati, Barbara Erskine or Kristin Hannah.

To find out whether the library has books by these authors, you can come to the library and check out the catalogue, or check it out at home, work or school. Go to the library’s website at www.whistlerlibrary.ca and type in the name of the author you are looking for in the "Search" box on the home page. If you want to reserve a book, all you need to do is click on the "Request Item" box, then enter your 14 digit library card number and your PIN (last 4 digits of your phone number) and the item will be requested in your name.

If you don’t have time to come to the library and ask for our recommendations on new authors, you can easily do it from your home computer. We have a great link to the Christchurch City Libraries website link called "If you like…". To find the link go the Whistler Public Library’s website, click on Resources and Tools , scroll down the list on the left side and click on Book Lists . Scroll down the list until you come to "If you like…". You can choose from Fiction, Biographies & Non-Fiction , Detective & Mystery Fiction , Fantasy & Science Fiction , Classical Music , Madcap Journeys , New Zealand Fiction , or Contemporary Women Writers . Find some new authors, then check out our website to see which titles the library owns.
