Official lineup originally slated for January

Originally slated for January, organizers of the Pemberton Music Festival (PMF) have delayed the release of the official lineup until sometime in March, according to a media spokesperson.

New Orleans-based event producers HUKA Entertainment announced in September they would be resurrecting the festival, which was organized by Live Nation in 2008, much to the delight of music fans across the Sea to Sky. The festival is scheduled for July 18 to 20.

HUKA has said that the program will be similar to that of the Hangout Festival, an event they put on in Alabama in May that featured Stevie Wonder, Tom Petty and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

The first batch of "Founder's Program" tickets, giving festivalgoers access to preferred lodging and other perks, sold out in the fall in a matter of minutes. Early bird passes went on sale in November and are now sold out.

Advance general admission passes, which include a camping plo and covers the three days of the festival, will run you $299. Advance VIP passes, which include camping and shuttle service, cost $1,199 for the weekend. Advance Super VIP passes, which includes concierge and meal service, run for $1,699.

A Stroke of Luck at newly launched reading series

The Whistler Writers Festival and The Point Artist-Run Centre have teamed up to launch Points of Departure, a series of readings, open-mic events and music.

The series will showcase both well-known literary figures from across B.C. and homegrown writers and musicians from the Sea to Sky.

The first of the series takes place Saturday, March 15 at The Point, a heritage lodge on the shores of Alta Lake, and is called A Stroke of Luck: Writers' Open Mic Night. This creative contest centres around luck, inviting participants to share their musings on the theme through poems, stories, song, dance or anything else. The contest is open to the public, just show up with your piece on the night of the show. Entries must be around two minutes in length, with a chance to win prizes.

The aim of the series is to extend elements of the annual literary festival, which will run from Oct. 17 to 19 this fall, to other parts of the year and to raise awareness of the talent within the community, "and most of all, to have some creative fun," says festival founder Stella Harvey. Two more Points of Departure events featuring visiting authors and poets are planned for May and September.

Dinner will also be served March 15 starting at 7 p.m., featuring four tapas created by local Michele Bush finished food-truck style, followed by live music from Wilson Faiella and guests. Readings begin at 8 p.m.

Tickets for the dinner and show are $20, or $10 for the show only. The contest entry fee is included in the price of admission. For more info, or to purchase tickets visit www.theviciouscircle.ca or www.thepointartists.com.

Annual Night Out for Music Heals expands to Whistler

The Canadian bar and nightclub community, including four Whistler establishments, will band together Saturday, March 1 for the annual Night Out for Music Heals, to create awareness for music therapy efforts.

Gibbons Hospitality Group venues Tapley's, Garfinkel's, Buffalo Bills and The Longhorn will donate $1 from every cover charge to Vancouver-based charity Music Heals, a not-for-profit society dedicated to promoting the healing powers of music throughout the country.

Now in its third year, the event has grown from just six venues in 2012 to 28 in six different cities in 2014, with more venues being added.
