Local athletes survive My First Triathlon

Whistler’s triathlete community got even larger after last weekend, with dozens of locals taking part in the annual My First Triathlon and My Next Triathlon races in Harrison Mills.

With temperatures in the mid-30s, the participants completed a 400 metre swim, a 20 km bike leg, and a 5 km run.

Tory Younger was the top Whistler competitor, finishing eighth overall, second among women, and second in the women’s 25 to 29 category with a total time of one hour, 25 minutes and 21 seconds.

Liam O’Brien was ninth overall and second in the men’s 19 to 24 group with his time of 1:25:39 – despite the fact that he came out of the water in 125 th place out of 239 starters.

Yolanda Foose was 33 rd overall and fourth in the women’s 25 to 29 race with a time of 1:30:53.

Kristy-Lee Harris was 71 st and fifth in the women’s 19 to 24 group with her time of 1:39:16.

Tessa Herbert was 46 th among women and third in the women’s 35 to 39 group in 1:43:22.

Shannon Tooey finished in 1:48:27, 27 th out of 61 racers in the 25 to 29 group.

Jeannine Mickelow was 31 st in the same category, finishing in 1:51:20.

Alison Taylor was 33 rd , also in the 25 to 29 bracket, with her time of 1:52:16.

Anik Champoux was one back of Taylor with her time of 1:52:58.

Dave Evans was 17 th in the men’s 30 to 34 race in 1:59:47.
