Rod MacLeod is back with his family after a construction accident almost cost him his life on Sept. 22.

MacLeod was working on a job site at the Kadenwood development when "a couple of really bad decisions" resulted in a pair of 1,000 pound logs lying across his chest and legs.

With the help of his crew at Jack Mann’s job site and other Kadenwood sites, as well as ambulance crews, MacLeod was extricated and brought to the Whistler Health Care Centre. He was soon after heli-vac’d to Vancouver General Hospital with a collapsed chest and a pierced lung.

"It was pretty serious," said MacLeod, who spent almost three days in intensive care for his trauma.

Now he is back home in Pemberton with a variety broken bones, and several months of healing and physiotherapy ahead of him.

MacLeod is well known in Whistler, where he worked for Whistler Mountain for several years, Carney’s, and a volunteer Weasel Worker for the World Cup downhill.
