Organizers of Squamish’s Wild at Art festival have been hard at work planning their event for 2009. Next year, the event will take place between March 6 and March 15, with an umbrella theme of Local Colour.

“This time we want to really brand our festival as local,” board president, Sonja Lebans, explained in a press release. “It’s time for our local talents to get main stage and be front and centre.”

The event will feature musical performances coupled with an art exhibition featuring paintings, sculpture and photography from local artists.

Organizers are also holding a song contest, asking people to compose a song that represents the spirit of Squamish. The winner will receive $1,000 and a chance to perform their song on the festival main stage at West Coast Railway Heritage Park.

A wide range of musicians from Lions Bay to Brackendale are welcome to participate in the festival, and are encouraged to submit an application to the performing arts coordinator, Kyle Coulter. Visit www.wildatart.ca for more information and an application.
