What: Pass The Buck film premiere

Where: The GLC

When: Saturday, Nov. 16

It seems that almost everybody in snowboarding these days is trying to "Go Pro," trying to make money out of the sport that they love. Pass The Buck is a new movie that deals with that theme.

The concept concentrates on skilled riders from around the world who discover the power of the Buck. A loonie gets passed from rider to rider and while they have it, they have the power to do almost anything. Or so they think. Shot in B.C., Colorado, Quebec, Japan and Europe, it includes big time riders Romain de Marchi, Chad Otterstrom and Jonas Emery.

Creative director, editor and promoter for the Kamikaze Film production, Dagan Beach – who also happens to be a Whistlerite – is excited about the Buck’s inaugural airing this Saturday night at the GLC.

"It’s been a labour of love of mine for so long now. Pulling 16 hour days in the edit suite during August was tough, but finally my dream has come to fruition."

Dagan says the film’s premiere will be an entire sensory experience, with his other talents on show as well.

"I am adding a slide show titled 180 Degrees screening abstract images of all things Whistler, and DJing throughout the night with my pal Pedro, a veteran of the trade."

Beach is sometimes better known around town as DJ Doctor Digglesworth, host of last winter’s popular down temp house night Moodswing, which is also planning a comeback at the GLC any day now.

How low will you go?

What: Freeze factor Competition

Where: Base of Blackcomb

When: Friday, Nov. 22

How desperate are you for a season pass? The 24 Hour Freeze Factor competition may be the solution you’re looking for.

Whistler-Blackcomb is looking to give away one free season pass, but there is a catch. You must stand in a lift line for 24 hours prior to opening day and survive a series of Freeze Factor challenges.

Participants will have their endurance pushed to the limits, testing their threshold for cold, threshold for gross, and their ski and snowboard knowledge.

There is some respite though. Bathroom breaks and periodic snacks will be awarded to those who avoid leaning, sitting or sleeping.

The grand prize winner will not only win a season pass; but they will also ride the first chair of the season with a few of their friends on the morning of Nov. 23. The next chairs to be loaded will be 100 chairs further back.

In order to enter, go to www.whistlerblackcomb.com and be at the base of Wizard Express Chair on Nov. 22.
