Local punks now

Slush joins Black Collar Crowd for punk show Saturday, Sept. 23 at Merlin’s.

Originally from Ontario, Slush is a local sound about town in Whistler since the punk rockers moved west more than seven years ago, carting with them five albums.

The band of Jamie Weatherbie, Matt Elliott, Adam Leggett and Gavin McDermott celebrated 10 years of making fast melodic punk music in 2003 with the album 10 Years Wasted , a compilation of the best of Slush. The band’s most recent album, Buried Inside, was released last year, revving up the local’s heart-pounding music even faster and tighter with more technical prowess.

Fellow Whistler band Black Collar Crowd also steps up to the mic with Luke Pollard, Mike Gallo and Jef Wasyliw. The classic punk trio kept busy this summer recording their first full-length album. More than 20 songs are catalogued for the new adventure. The band recently released an EP. Black Collar’s three new tracks can be listened to at www.myspace.com/blackcollarcrowd , including City Streets, Deadman’s War and Heaven’s Gate.
