Two weeks ago Keilly McIntyre, a resort employee who hails from Yorkshire, England, misplaced an envelope containing $800 in cash. Some of it was rent money, and the rest was to go towards the purchase of a camper van.
She has been working three jobs this winter, Splitz Grill and Pasta Lupino, as well as doing some maintenance for her landlord. For her it was a substantial sum of hard-earned money to lose. One minute she had it, and the next it was gone.
"I thought I must have been pick-pocketed, I can’t imagine how it fell out of my pocket," she said. "I was absolutely devastated because I work three jobs, and work every day of the week, two jobs a day."
She reported the missing money to the police, but didn’t expect to get it back in a million year.
Because she lives in a crowded, she didn’t get the message from Royal Bank until two weeks after the money went missing – someone had found her money and contacted the bank by using the receipt in the envelope. The bank identified the envelope as McIntyre’s.
When she finally got the message, the bank told her where her money was. Sandeep Kaur Dhamija, and employee at KFC found the money, and together with her husband Jasvinder Singh, and employee at Tandoori Grill had found it, they sought to return it to its rightful owner.
"I was just so shocked that somebody would do that," she said. "It really does restore your faith in humanity. It affected all my plans, my saving up to get a camper van, and saving up to get my Master’s degree, it was just such a set back. So a big thank-you to them."
McIntyre offered a reward to the couple, which they refused. All they wanted was to return the money to its rightful owner.
