Local runners take on 5 Peaks

The second stop of the B.C. 5 Peaks trail running series took place at Simon Frasier University campus on Burnaby Mountain this past weekend, with several local runners taking part. Barry McClure was the fastest Whistler runner, completing the 9.

The second stop of the B.C. 5 Peaks trail running series took place at Simon Frasier University campus on Burnaby Mountain this past weekend, with several local runners taking part.

Barry McClure was the fastest Whistler runner, completing the 9.8 km enduro course in 59:17. He also placed fourth in Male 50 to 59.

Walter Wallgram placed sixth in the same category and five spots back in the overall rankings with a time of 1:00:19.

Cathy Jenkins placed fourth in Female 40 to 49 in 1:08:43.

There was also a six kilometre sport race. Ral Trub of Garibaldi Highlands placed 15 th in Male 40 to 49 in 43:38. Lisa Wanless of Squamish placed 17 th in Female 30 to 39 in 48:03, while Tracy Jackson of Whistler came sixth in Female 40 to 49 in 48:05, and Sarah Ruttan of Squamish came 21 st in 30 to 39 in 49:37.

The next 5 Peaks race is at Mount Seymour on July 24. The Whistler race takes place on Aug. 21.
