Almost a dozen local athletes from Squamish, Whistler and Pemberton are taking part in this year’s Subaru Ironman Canada Triathlon in Pentiction on Aug. 26.

Almost a dozen local athletes from Squamish, Whistler and Pemberton are taking part in this year’s Subaru Ironman Canada Triathlon in Pentiction on Aug. 26.

The Ironman, one of the most challenging and prestigious races in the world, draws competitors from all over the world, with competitors registered from every continent shy of Antarctica.

Competitors start the day with a 3.86 kilometre swim in Okanagan Lake, bike 180 km of local roads and highways, then finish by running a full marathon of 42.2 km.

Locals racers participating include John Blok, Pique’s own production manager, Murray Coates, Paul Nicholas, Jody Stockfish, Christine Suter, Paul Suter, Tony Theriault, Dawn Weberg-Titus, Stephan Guerin, Andrea Kardos and Mae Palm.
