Locals on podium at BMO Vancouver Marathon 

Squamish residents Volker Schneider and Margreet Dietz lead Sea to Sky runners

There were over 10,000 runners at the start line for the 40th annual BMO Vancouver Marathon, Half Marathon and 8K on Sunday, May 1, including some runners from Sea to Sky.

The top male runner overall was Benard Onsare of Kenya with a chip time of 2:19:59, over three minutes faster than Gilbert Kiptoo, another Kenyan. Vancouver's Graeme Wilson was third in 2:33:02.

The fastest female in 16th overall was Keddi-Anne Sherbino of Kelowna in 2:43:38, followed by Allison Macsas of Texas in 2:44:50 and Kimberly Mueller of California in 2:59:22.

The top Whistler runner going the full 42.2 km marathon distance was Shinichi Shimamura, who placed 226th overall and 44th out of 201 runners in Male 25 to 29 with a time of 3:22:52.

Sam Williams was 510th overall and 22nd out of 102 in Male 20 to 24 in 3:34:59.

Barry McClure was 771st overall and 58th out of 195 in Male 50 to 54.

Vicki Romanin was 19th out of 106 in Female 50 to 54 in 3:56:31.

Claudie Simard was 58th out of 223 in Female 35 to 39 in 4:01:02.

Lindsay Wilson was 173rd in Female 25 to 29 in 4:48:06.

Penny Minges was 94th in Female 50 to 54 in 5:39:31.

From Pemberton, Gary Martin was 55th out of 255 in Male 35 to 39 in 3:28:52.

From Squamish, Volker Schneider was 71st overall and 16th out of 319 in Male 40 to 44 in 3:02:56 - the fastest time posted by a Sea to Sky runner.

Ultra runner Margreet Dietz was 95th overall, fifth among women and first out of 223 in Female 40 to 44 with a time of 3:07:41.

Zak Gilson was 113th in Male 35 to 39 in 3:48:39.

Derek Gagne was 124th in Male 35 to 39 in 3:54:55.

Spring McClurg was 69th in Female 25 to 29 in 3:59:40.

Darin Labrenz was 127th in Male 45 to 49 in 4:03:44.

Shannon MacLeod was 92nd in Female 30 to 34 in 4:07:38.

Leah Stadelmann was 93rd in Female 30 to 34 in 4:09:25.

Rory Tucker was 239th in Male 40 to 44 in 4:27:50.

There were 3,220 finishers in the marathon, and 6,522 in the half marathon.

In the half marathon, the top Whistler runner was Megan Wastle in 114th overall and fourth out of 610 in Female 35 to 39. She finished with a time of 1:31:10.

Michael Zuccolin was 32nd out of 397 in Male 30 to 34 in 1:32:33.

Ondrea Ross was sixth in Female 35 to 39 in 1:33:28.

Hayley Winters was 13th out of 760 in Female 25 to 29 in 1:34:02.

Hiromasa Sato was 20th out of 278 in Male 45 to 49 in 1:35:31.

Shizuo Kashino was 23rd in Male 45 to 49 in 1:35:30.

Hannah Garcia was 12th in Female 35 to 39 in 1:39:49.

Tara Wight was 27th out of 706 in Female 30 to 34 in 1:41:00.

Sarah Strother was 18th in Female 35 to 39 in 1:39:49.

Dale Marcoux was 102nd in Male 35 to 39 in 1:42:27.

Lindsey Ataya was 80th in Female 25 to 29 in 1:50:36.

Francesca Cole was 18th in Female 50 to 54 in 1:53:44.

Sarah Prunier was 181st in Female 25 to 29 in 1:56:24.

Wendi Gabelhouse was 92nd in Female 50 to 44 in 1:59:18.

Jane Nielsen was 144th in Female 40 to 44 in 2:01:03.

Sonia Mahoney was 166th in Female 40 to 44 in 2:06:50.

Jane Clifford was 55th in Female 55 to 59 in 2:16:35.

Raveen Dhaliwal was 429th in Female 30 to 34 in 2:12:42.

Caroline Bagnall was 241st in Female 45 to 49 in 2:27:48.

From Pemberton, Lindsay May was 23rd in Female 30 to 34 in 1:41:06.

Shayne May was 75th in Male 30 to 34 in 1:41:06.

Erica Cuthbert was 36th in Female 35 to 39 in 1:44:00.

Greg Edwards was 200th in Male 30 to 34 in 1:52:27.

Nicole Simon was 499th in Female 30 to 34 in 2:22:46.

From Squamish, Mike Heiliger was 136th overall and second out of 165 runners in the Male 55 to 59 category in 1:32:09.

Jason Ross was 47th in Male 35 to 39 in 1:38:53.

John Redpath was 69th in Male 30 to 34 in 1:38:12.

Paul Malo was 16th in Male 55 to 59 in 1:42:14.

Emma Suguss was 31st in Female 35 to 39 in 1:52:23.

Sylvie Jorger was 35th in Female 40 to 44 in 1:48:06.

Lois Lemieux was 17th in Female 50 to 54 in 1:52:18.

Graham Teanby was 107th in Male 40 to 44 in 1:52:52.

Adam Schnell was 114th in Male 40 to 44 in 1:47:56.

Elizabeth Grant was 155th in Female 30 to 34 in 1:58:45.

Dana Schoahs was 267th in Female 35 to 39 in 2:06:06.

Heather Sidsworth was 13th in Female 60 to 64 in 2:12:19.

Ray Lalli was 22th in Male 45 to 49 in 2:25:01.

Janet Bride was 474th in Female 35 to 39 in 2:29:34.

Allie Humphrey was 475th in Female 35 to 39 in 2:29:34.

Jennifer Appleton was 543rd in Female 35 to 39 in 2:43:47.

There was also a short 8-km course.

Whistler's Dave Clark took some time out of planning the Whistler Half Marathon to run it, placing third in Male 40 to 44 in 38:23.

From Squamish, Colin Watson was fifth in 35 to 39 in 38:27.

Kai Labrenz was 13th in Male 19 and Under in 38:46.

Jamie Mahnger was 15th in Female 20 to 24 in 46:33.

Kimberlee Labrenz was 15th in Female 40 to 44 in 46:43.

Danielle Searancke was 31st in Female 25 to 29 in 47:44.

Jennifer White was 34th in Female 40 to 44 in 55:55.

Perry Omeasoo was 35th in Male 50 to 54 in 1:03:58.

Deann Fleming was 120th in Female 30 to 34 in 1:14:17.
