Locals on podium at BMO Vancouver Marathon 

Squamish residents Volker Schneider and Margreet Dietz lead Sea to Sky runners

There were over 10,000 runners at the start line for the 40th annual BMO Vancouver Marathon, Half Marathon and 8K on Sunday, May 1, including some runners from Sea to Sky.

The top male runner overall was Benard Onsare of Kenya with a chip time of 2:19:59, over three minutes faster than Gilbert Kiptoo, another Kenyan. Vancouver's Graeme Wilson was third in 2:33:02.

The fastest female in 16th overall was Keddi-Anne Sherbino of Kelowna in 2:43:38, followed by Allison Macsas of Texas in 2:44:50 and Kimberly Mueller of California in 2:59:22.

The top Whistler runner going the full 42.2 km marathon distance was Shinichi Shimamura, who placed 226th overall and 44th out of 201 runners in Male 25 to 29 with a time of 3:22:52.

Sam Williams was 510th overall and 22nd out of 102 in Male 20 to 24 in 3:34:59.

Barry McClure was 771st overall and 58th out of 195 in Male 50 to 54.

Vicki Romanin was 19th out of 106 in Female 50 to 54 in 3:56:31.

Claudie Simard was 58th out of 223 in Female 35 to 39 in 4:01:02.

Lindsay Wilson was 173rd in Female 25 to 29 in 4:48:06.

Penny Minges was 94th in Female 50 to 54 in 5:39:31.

From Pemberton, Gary Martin was 55th out of 255 in Male 35 to 39 in 3:28:52.

From Squamish, Volker Schneider was 71st overall and 16th out of 319 in Male 40 to 44 in 3:02:56 - the fastest time posted by a Sea to Sky runner.

Ultra runner Margreet Dietz was 95th overall, fifth among women and first out of 223 in Female 40 to 44 with a time of 3:07:41.

Zak Gilson was 113th in Male 35 to 39 in 3:48:39.

Derek Gagne was 124th in Male 35 to 39 in 3:54:55.

Spring McClurg was 69th in Female 25 to 29 in 3:59:40.

Darin Labrenz was 127th in Male 45 to 49 in 4:03:44.

Shannon MacLeod was 92nd in Female 30 to 34 in 4:07:38.

Leah Stadelmann was 93rd in Female 30 to 34 in 4:09:25.

Rory Tucker was 239th in Male 40 to 44 in 4:27:50.

There were 3,220 finishers in the marathon, and 6,522 in the half marathon.

In the half marathon, the top Whistler runner was Megan Wastle in 114th overall and fourth out of 610 in Female 35 to 39. She finished with a time of 1:31:10.

Michael Zuccolin was 32nd out of 397 in Male 30 to 34 in 1:32:33.
