The B.C. Cup mountain bike racing series continued last weekend with the Mad Trapper cross-country, downhill and dual slalom events at Panorama Mountain Village.

While fewer Whistler cyclists turned out to race in the competition than in other B.C. Cups, a few locals managed to find their way to the podium.

In the Under 17 Expert Men category, James "Crunch" Crowe’s two-win streak came to an end, but just barely. The 15-year-old finished just four seconds back of Marty Shaffer in the close contest.

Brook Baker, riding uncontested, won the Junior Expert Women’s race with a time that would have placed her second among the Senior Experts.

In the Senior Elite Men’s race, Whistler’s Totsui Shunsuke took the top spot by almost two minutes. Shunsuke was the top Whistler entry the week before in the Squamish Test of Metal, finishing fifth overall.

In the downhill, Jeff Beatty finished third among the Junior Expert Men. Brook Baker was back among the Junior Expert Women to win her second division of the weekend.

Chris Colbeck was 12 th in the Senior Elite race, less than seven seconds out of the lead.

The B.C. Cup season wraps up on the July 13-14 weekend with events at Sun Peaks. The following weekend, July 19 to 21, Sun Peaks will host the Tim Horton’s MTB National Championships.
