The annual Whistler Squash Classic attracted 70 athletes this year, including players from Seattle, Vancouver and Victoria. Still, the local swatters held their own throughout the tournament.
In the Mens C and D division, local Tom Demarco lost 3-2 in a close, intense match to Dan Sloan. Russell Clark came close in the consolation finals, eventually losing another close game to Owen Belton.
The Mens B division was tough, with Sandy Treagus losing after making it to the sem-finals, and Tim Ng losing in the finals to Aaron Hook.
The womens division was also tough. Polly French was a finalist in the womens C Division, while Annick Harris and Cheryl Morningstar battled it out for the consolation final.
In the combined womens A/B event, Carol Eberhard lost in the consolation final 3-2 to Tracita Dingwall.
"The competition was extremely tough this year, but the locals were able to step up to the challenge and played fantastic," said Ben Thomas, one of the organizers of the tournament, and the national amateur champion.
