Whistler’s Matt Chater all but dominated in the Provincial Track Championships at the velodrome in Victoria last weekend, winning two gold medals and three bronzes in different competitions.

Riding in the elite category, he won the Olympic sprint with teammates Murray Solem of Kitsilano and Scott Laliberte of Burnaby, edging out some national team cyclists in the process.

They went on to win gold again in the 4000 metre Team Pursuit event, after which point Chater raced his way to bronze medals in the Madison, Match Sprints and Keiran races.

Chater has only been track racing for three years. Last weekend held his own against riders who have been in the sport for anywhere from five to 15 years, and who have access to the velodrome year round.

His goal is to compete in the Tim Hortons Track National Championships in Bromont, Quebec in August, if he can get the money together.
