Logging truck roll over injures two

Highway closed for more than three hours

At least two people in two separate vehicles were injured, one seriously, when a southbound logging truck overturned on Highway 99 just after 8 a.m. on Monday morning.

The driver of one vehicle sustained minor injuries and was soon freed from the vehicle.

It took almost two hours for Fire Rescue Services to extricate a woman from the second vehicle after a log reportedly went through her windshield. She is reported to be in stable condition with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The logging truck driver was not injured.

The incident happened 11 km south of Whistler at the same section of road where another logging truck tipped over into the path of a bus this past January. It’s also the third accident involving a logging truck tipping over since the New Year.

The highway was closed from the time of the accident and was reopened for single lane alternating traffic late this morning. It’s expected the highway will be closed again this afternoon to allow work crews to remove the logs and damaged vehicles.
