After being separated from his family for 22 days, Scout is back home.
The three-year-old goldendoodle went missing while on a hike near Cougar Mountain on Feb. 5, setting off a frantic search by owners Kate O'Sullivan and her boyfriend Trevor that included advertising, door knocking and a social media blitz.
"Miracles can happen," O'Sullivan said, the day after Scout returned home. "It's like winning the lottery to find him out like that. It's insane."
Scout was found on Feb. 27 by a woman who saw his posting on the Sea to Sky NANA Facebook page.
O'Sullivan was already out searching when she got the call, and drove to meet Scout and his rescuer on the highway near Pemberton.
"I stopped the car and I ran down the side of the highway and I was crying and she was crying, and Scout was going nuts," O'Sullivan said.
After more than three weeks on his own, Scout has lost some weight, O'Sullivan said, but it appears he'll be just fine.
"His paws are raw, he has some wounds, the vet says he has a temperature and infection, but he's being treated for it all," O'Sullivan said.
"He's on special high-calorie food, and then like not walking at all — just to go to the bathroom and then he comes back in to rest."
O'Sullivan had offered a reward of $1,500 for Scout's return, but his rescuer turned it down. O'Sullivan says she'll donate the money to WAG and to a friend's GoFundMe page.
"I know all of Whistler knows this, but the community is so awesome at this stuff," she said.
"Everyone shared it, everyone posted, everyone offered to search... people I didn't even know.
"Me and Trevor are just so, so stoked."
