Whistler RCMP is investigating a woman’s claim that she was assaulted and threatened with death after she told a man that she did not have a cigarette.
At approximately 12:45 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12, a Vancouver woman told police that she was walking near a hotel when a male approached her and asked for a cigarette. When she told him she didn’t have one, the suspect allegedly threatened to assault and kill her, police said. He then reportedly grabbed her sweater and tried to hit her before she managed to escape and call police.
The woman described the suspect as being in his 40s, 5-3 tall, with green eyes and a blonde buzzcut.

Wet, slushy Monday keeps police busy on the roads
Inclement weather caused chaos on the roads this past Monday, Nov. 13, when Whistler police responded to four separate single-vehicle collisions.
Police responded to the first crash shortly before 7 a.m. when a vehicle travelling south of the Green River crossing just north of Whistler slid off the highway and rolled over. Police said the driver was uninjured but could not recall the details of the crash.
While Mounties were wrapping up at the scene, they came across an injured woman walking along Highway 99. The woman told police she had passed the collision scene from earlier before losing control of her vehicle in the poor conditions. The car had slid down an embankment and rolled over at least once after veering off the road, police said.
Then, an officer leaving the scene of the second accident observed a van swerving along the road before colliding with several traffic signs and coming to a rest near the Green River railway crossing. The driver was unhurt.
Upon inspection, police noted that, although the van was equipped with snow tires, the tread depth did not meet safety standards, so the driver was issued a violation ticket.
Later that day, a woman called Whistler RCMP to report that she had lost control of her vehicle, sending it careening down an embankment on Alta Lake Road. Despite the vehicle rolling over several times, the driver escaped uninjured.
The vehicle was not drivable and was towed away from the scene. As the winter approaches, Whistler RCMP reminds drivers to “slow down in icy, wet, slushy or snowy road conditions and ensure that your tires are adequate,” according to a release.
Drivers are required to have winter tires, with either a mountain snowflake symbol or the “M+S” symbol and a minimum tread depth of 3.5 millimetres, when driving the Sea to Sky Highway. Driving without proper tires can net a fine of $121, while failing to have the proper tread depth can result in a $109 ticket.
Whistler man arrested at roadstop for drug trafficking
A 36-year-old Whistler man was arrested for drug possession and trafficking after he was stopped at a routine road check last week, police said.
Whistler RCMP was conducting the safety check at Highway 99 and Whistler Way on Friday, Nov. 10 at approximately 11:35 p.m. when the driver approached and an officer detected an odour of marijuana.
The driver then failed a roadside test and was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition. Police said “evidence of drug trafficking” was also found in the vehicle and the man was arrested and subsequently released with a Dec. 13 court date.
Pemberton suspect arrested after punching man
A 39-year-old Pemberton man is facing several charges after he reportedly punched another male last week.
At about 3:20 a.m. last Thursday, Nov. 9, a Pemberton officer was flagged down by a witness who saw the incident. The office also spoke with the alleged victim and noted that he had blood in his mouth.
The suspect was later tracked down and arrested on recommended charges of assault, breach of recognizance and uttering threats, police said.
Police investigating break-and-enter to Whistler shed
Police are investigating a report of a break-and-enter to a shed in White Gold last week.
A local resident contacted police on Nov. 10 to report the theft from a shed in the 7200 block of Fitzsimmons Road South. Reportedly missing sometime over the past month were a 2016 Giant Reign mountain bike and a Stihl chainsaw.
