Re: “Some home renos being done without proper asbestos testing, says electrician

Hi,
My friend recently hired a contractor to remove some drywall and while work was half way thru demolition, work safe B.C. came in and issued stop work order. He went thru all process of asbestos removal companies and all 4 companies were disapproved because work safe bc doesnt think they have enough expertise! Then they approved the most expensive ones. After removal of asbestos worksafebc gave clearance to continue work without any more demolition. As the owner explained how the removal process would have been done; to his surprise, it looked like not even as good as simple ganitorial cleaning. Nothing was done what worksafebc had in their report how it should have been done. I went with him to check it out, I found some drywall dusts were still present on the floor, no crawl space is cleaned, as a all old dust, debris and even spiderweb the disturbed. Cut outs of the drywalls still hanging in the air, nothing was cleaned under the deck. As per worksafebc, 3 inches of soil all around the house and under deck within 5 ft had to be removed and all the removal companies were quoting minimum of $12000 to do the job and only the company who quoted $19000 was approved. He is so disappointed to see what was done for the price he paid. He is unsure where and who to ask for this what he thinks is a kind of scam that work safe created so much fear over the asbestos and cleaning process. He is so stressful since he couldnt move out and he had rent for a month and it is expensive. If anyone has any idea and drop some words as to why worksafebc would create that much fear in his life and get $500 worth of janitorial work for $19000, it would be highly appreciable. It would be a great help!

Thank you!
