Map with notations prompts search of athletes’ village

A four-hour midnight search of the Whistler athletes' village turned up nothing unusual last week after police were presented with a map of the village with unspecific notations.

"Because of that, the ISU (the Integrated Security Unit with the 2010 Games) searched various locations within the athletes' village," said Whistler RCMP staff sergeant Steve LeClair.

The search got underway in the early hours of Friday morning Feb. 19.

No athletes were disturbed, said LeClair.

Along with several officers, three dog handlers were used in the search and nothing of note was discovered.

"Public safety and athlete safety is our priority," said LeClair.

The Whistler RCMP is continuing to investigate the matter. Anyone with information is asked to call the RCMP at 604-932-3044.
