Whistler Secondary School students are doing their part to raise funds for the fight against AIDS/HIV in Africa by taking part in a marathon yoga session.

The yoga session will last for 108 minutes on Friday, Nov. 30 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the high school — the day before World AIDS day.

Everyone is welcome to attend including students, parents, staff and wider community members. Admission is by donation.

The event is a fundraiser pilot project spearheaded by YogaKids Society in Vancouver, designed to help raise funds and awareness about AIDS/HIV in Africa.

Specifically, the money will go to UNICEF’s “Unite for Children. Unite Against AIDS.” This is a five-year campaign which began in 2005 focusing on scaling up interventions to prevent new infections, help children affected by AIDS/HIV and ensure children have a central place on the global AIDS agenda.

In addition to Whistler community members taking part in the yoga marathon, schools and yoga studios across Canada will be doing their part to raise funds and awareness, as well as spreading a message of well-being and compassion.

To help prepare for 108 minutes of yoga there will be two sessions a week for the next three weeks. The free sessions will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays (beginning Nov. 14) from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
