Sensei Cole Manson has been taking his martial arts students to tournaments since he started offering classes 11 years ago, but never so many and with as much success as at the recent Tiger Balm Invitational at Capilano University. Some 26 students combined to win 30 medals for the newly named Awesome Arts Academy, including 10 gold, 13 silver and seven bronze. The team also came home with the large trophy in the adult Katas Grand Championship.

Manson credited the results with having a full-time training facility in Function Junction, "and the extra time and hard work the athletes did to prepare for this event."

Manson himself competed in the Brazilian Jui Jitsu tournament on Saturday, winning the silver medal. Ian Jackson won a gold medal in his category with two wins, while Conrad Niven and Ryan Turner earned silver medals with records of 1-1. Other members of the program also did well in their first ever competition.

Joe McKinnson was fourth and Alvaro Arocena, Sampson McQuaid, Magda Regdos, Jenni Milochis and Leanne Elliott were fifth in their categories.
