Whistler’s Max Horner was presented with the Lumpy Leidal Award by the Whistler Off-Road Cycling Association (WORCA) at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler Loonie Race last Thursday. The award has been presented the past eight years to the local youth who WORCA directors feel best exemplifies WORCA’s values.

Horner has had a remarkable season as a racer, winning the Under 15 provincial championships this year, as well as a B.C. Cup downhill race at Bear Mountain. He has raced in Loonie Races, B.C. Cup events, Canada Cup races, and had a solid Crankworx with several podium appearances. He races both cross-country and downhill equally well, and is always encouraging other riders.

What put him over the top for WORCA directors this year was his attitude at the B.C. High School Cross-Country Championships. After placing third in his category, Horner became a one-man cheering section for the rest of the team and ran to the finish with a teammate who broke his bike.

Past winners include Jesse Melamed, Tyler Allison, Brandon Semenuk and Will Routley.
