Poet, actor, musician and, most of all, storyteller, Max Tell has toured much of the world with his performances and workshops, entertaining and teaching audiences of all ages. Recently back from his fourth tour of South-East Asia in as many years, Max Tell (Robert Stelmach) brings a thought-provoking collection of stories for young adults to the Brackendale Art Gallery Nov. 23. The stories include a traditional Vietnamese folk tale, a story of life in a Vietnamese boat camp, and a personal story about how, as a teenager, Stelmach fought to protect a hive of wild honey bees from destruction. At the BAG he will perform for the first hour and then discuss his work in an informal workshop with audience members. Stelmach holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Arts from Virginia Commonwealth University. He toured Ontario as a professional actor in children’s theatre productions for five years before studying creative writing at the Banff School of Fine Arts. His programs today include writing workshops for young people, storytelling workshops for reluctant readers, Story Sports and teaching teachers to use acting to help their presentations. His fundamental gift is to make language both interesting and relevant. Max Tell is the first in a series of writers, video artists, producers, directors, actors, computer experts and others to be presented by the Coast Mountain Corridor New Free School.
