Pique’s very own ‘wiseman" will be the keynote speaker at the next Dialogue Café on Dec. 18.

G.D. Maxwell will lead the debate on Christmas – Universal story or marginal myth.

And while no one can question Max’s ability to weigh in on any topic all by himself it’s rumoured that he has already interviewed Jesus Christ and Santa Claus on the topic, as well as a mystery guest.

For as long as there has been Christmas in the Western World there has been debate about how modern views and commercialism fit with traditional religious beliefs.

This Dialogue Café will explore those themes again and offer all those who attend a chance to weigh in on the significance of the holiday, be it personal or global.

"The very fact that we even can have an opportunity to talk about this with each other is in itself kind of special," said William Roberts Executive Director of The Whistler Forum which co-hosts the get-togethers.

"We think the dialogue itself is a kind of gift and it is a gift we don’t often practice and exercise in giving to each other.

"In this time of gift giving perhaps it is a good thing to give the gift of dialogue and listening and understanding others even if we don’t agree with them."

And there will even be special treats.

"We will have special strong Pousse Café coffee after the dialogue and there might even be a little bit of music as well thrown in," said Roberts.

"So special coffees, Christmas goodies, dialogue, Max, Whistler Forum – what could be better?"

The special Dialogue Cafe will be at the Fairmont Chateau on Thursday, Dec. 18th beginning at 7:30 p.m.
