Mayor goes retro for Earth Day 

Whistler Mayor Hugh O’Reilly is just one of the models who have agreed to wear clothes from the Re-Use-It Centre as part their annual fashion show. Other models include Rabbit, AWARE president Mitch Rhodes, SLRD chair Paul Lali, Citta bartender Dave Paul, musician Leanne Lamoureaux, real estate agent Inge Flannigan, and Liam Beresford.

The Re-Use-It Centre fashion show will take place during Whistler’s Earth Day Festival on Saturday, April 20 at 1:30 p.m. in the Town Plaza, by the gazebo. Earth Day, which runs from noon to 4 p.m., will feature face painting for the children, musical acts, as well as displays by AWARE, The Whistler Naturalists, Whistler Eco Tours, WAVE Transit, the Jack Bell Foundation, the Jenny Jones Bear Foundation, the Whistler Fisheries Stewardship Group, local organic farmers, and the Early Adopters of the Natural Step framework, ‘Whistler. It’s Our Nature.’

AWARE will be taking the opportunity to sign up new members, renew memberships, and get the word out about upcoming events and initatives.

The Resort Municipality of Whistler’s annual Pitch In Day is also being held that morning, with volunteers giving Whistler a spring cleaning. Meet at the Public Works Yard by Nesters between 7:20 and 8 a.m. to get garbage bags, maps and other supplies to clean up the community. This event runs until noon, ending with a barbecue at the fire hall.

There will also be a celebration for the real international Earth Day, which takes place on Monday, April 22 nd . WAVE will be offering free transit all day long to celebrate. That evening there will be an Earth Day Bash at The Boot. Raven’s Revival will be opening up for reggae band Samsara.
