Whistler mayor Nancy Wilhelm-Morden is planning a slideshow presentation of her trip to Karuizawa, Japan where she was on an official visit to Whistler's Sister City.

The presentation is slated to be part of the next council meeting scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 20.

The mayor gave an address while on her trip from Aug. 1-3. There she spoke about the special connection between the two towns.

"As many of you know, Whistler and Karuizawa share a special bond," said Wilhelm-Morden. "Fourteen years ago our communities became Sister Cities. Both of our cities offer year-round tourism and opportunities for many outdoor recreational activities. And we have both hosted Olympic Games. Our Sister City Exchange allows us to explore the traditions, history, language and geography of both countries."

The Mayor of Karuizawa offered to host and pay for the travel of the mayor and her husband to attend Karuizawa's 90th anniversary celebration.

The Resort Municipality of Whistler and Karuizawa became the 67th pair of Canadian and Japanese Sister Cities in 1999.
