Mayoral candidates to debate this afternoon

Four of five candidates expected to attend

This afternoon’s debate among Whistler’s mayoral candidates has expanded to include four of the five people running for the top job.

Miro Kolvacek and Brian Walker will join Kristi Wells and Mayor Ken Melamed in a debate at 3 p.m. today (Monday, Nov. 10) in the Rainbow Theatre.

The fifth candidate for mayor, Jag Bhandari, has not confirmed his participation.

Members of the public are invited to attend but there will be no questions from the public. Questions have been submitted by Pique Newsmagazine and the Whistler Question and will be read by the moderator, Dave Davenport.

Each candidate will have four minutes for opening remarks. That will be followed by four questions from the press, which all candidates will have the opportunity to debate. There will be a 10-minute break and then each candidate will be allowed to ask one question to any other candidate, which will then be debated in the same manner as the press questions.

Each candidate will have two minutes for closing remarks.

Michele Bush will act as Mistress of Ceremonies and Kostaman will provide additional entertainment.
