McIntyre supports Falcon

West Vancouver-Sea to Sky MLA backs former health minister for leader of B.C. Liberals

West Vancouver-Sea to Sky MLA Joan McIntyre announced Monday she is supporting Kevin Falcon the B.C. Liberal Party leadership race.

McIntyre said in a release her support for Falcon is based on his strong track record as Minister of Health Services, and prior to that as Minister of Transportation, and the key role he played in bringing a major safety upgrade to the Sea to Sky Highway.

"I've been working closely with Kevin to obtain capital funding for the much needed Mental Health and Addictions Centre for Lions Gate Hospital, which the four North Shore MLAs have been supporting over the past months," said McIntyre.

McIntyre noted that although Falcon is the MLA for Surrey-Cloverdale, he was raised in West Vancouver and as an avid mountain biker he's a regular rider of the North Shore Trails.

"Having served in the legislature with Kevin since 2005, I have the utmost confidence in his ability to make the necessary decisions to lead the B.C. Liberal Party and the Province of B.C. in the years ahead," said McIntyre.

George Abbott, Mike de Jong and Moira Stilwell are the other declared candidates for the B.C. Liberal leadership. Former cabinet minister Christy Clark is considering entering the race.

The B.C. Liberal Party leadership vote will take place on Feb. 26, 2011.
