Memorial putting tournament puts kids in the wild

Friends of Neil Falkner

Friends of Neil Falkner, a Whistler ski patroller who died in 2002 while backcountry skiing in Banff National Park, are keeping his legacy alive with their second annual putting tournament and fundraiser this Saturday.

Held at Riverside Putting Greens, proceeds from the tournament go to a scholarship fund that every summer sends one youth from Falkner’s high school, Britannia Secondary in East Vancouver, on a 17-day Outward Bound trip. Falkner himself took an Outward Bound trip when he was 16, and remembered it as a pivotal point in his life.

The tournament gets underway at 1 p.m. The $30 entry fee includes green fees, a free barbecue and a prize draw. There will also be a beer garden.
