A man who went missing on a hike near Iceberg Lake this weekend has been found dead, police have confirmed.
The 27-year-old foreign national was reported missing at around 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16 after he failed to return as planned from a hike close to Rainbow Mountain, northwest of Whistler.
Whistler Search and Rescue was activated but crews were unable to locate the man that night. The search resumed the following day, and despite poor weather conditions hampering rescue efforts, the hiker was recovered at approximately 12:15 p.m. in the area of the Iceberg Lake Trail, a challenging high-alpine route.
In a statement, Whistler RCMP said it appears the man fell into a crevasse.
No further details on the hiker are available at this time as police work to identify next of kin.
Pique will have more on this story as information becomes available.
