Motorized use could be restricted in Callaghan

The provincial government is expected to make a decision in the coming weeks that would restrict motorized vehicles in parts of the Callaghan Valley.

The provincial government is expected to make a decision in the coming weeks that would restrict motorized vehicles in parts of the Callaghan Valley.

Called a Section 58 under the Forest Range Practices Act, the order could restrict use on Crown land if the minister “determines that it is necessary to protect a recreation or range resource or to manage public recreation use on Crown land.”

There are currently no orders like this in place in the district.

The order would be enforced through public education.

It is not clear at this point what areas of the Callaghan Valley would fall under this new order.
