The Mountain Galleries at the Fairmont is paying tribute to one of British Columbia's most iconic places in its Great Bear Rainforest exhibition.

In a release, the gallery's manager Elizabeth Peacock said the show would be "a spectacular visual showcase of one of the most beautiful untouched areas on the planet."

There will be paintings of spirit bears, rainforest, rivers and waterfalls, coastlines and regional animals, including grizzlies and wolves.

The exhibition opening takes place at Mountain Galleries on Saturday, June 18, at 5 p.m.

Participating artists include Maureen Enns, Doria Moodie and Charlie Easton, Brent Lynch, Karel Doruyter, Shannon Ford, Randy Hayashi, Linda Wilder and guest artist Ian McAllister.

Kids can apply to Children's Fest mentor program

The Whistler Children's Festival is bringing back its mentoring program for youngsters aged seven to 15.

They can apply to participate as a radio co-host, camera operator, TV reporter, photographer, or newspaper reporter for a day.

Applicants can submit an application online explaining why they would make a great junior apprentice for their chosen position.

Successful applicants will meet their mentor, spend time learning about the job and then go to work at the Whistler Children's Festival. As members of the media, they will be given official media accreditation for the festival, with full access to backstage and artist areas.

Editor of the Whistler Question, Alyssa Noel, will be the mentor of the newspaper reporter. Other mentors are from Whistler FM and Shaw TV.

Applications are at www.whistlerchildrensfestival.com; deadline is Monday, June 13.

The Whistler Children's Festival takes place from July 8 to 10 at Whistler Olympic Plaza.
