Some of this country's most celebrated artists are part of the Audain Art Museum's next temporary exhibition, opening in November.
Stone and Sky: Canada's Mountain Landscape has 100 works of art that span 150 years of reproducing this country's mountainous beauty in photographs, watercolours, drawings, paintings and prints.
Artists on show will include Lawren Harris and other members of the Group of Seven, Emily Carr, Toni Onley, Edward Burtynsky, Kenojuak Ashevak, John Hartman, Takao Tanabe and Ann Kipling.
Stone and Sky is a Canada 150 project that looks at how artists have interacted with mountainous terrain over time, in terms of engagement and the creation of a national psyche.
The public opening of Stone and Sky takes place on Saturday, Nov. 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The curator's tour takes place at 1 p.m. and is free to museum members and with the purchase of admission (adults $18; youth 16 and under are free).
The exhibition closes on Feb. 26, 2018.
Authors in Schools expands
The Whistler Writers Festival is expanding its Authors in Schools program to include four award-winning guest authors: Cary Fagan, Sara Leach, Susin Nielsen and Drew Hayden Taylor.
The program takes place in the second week of October, before and after the Whistler Writers Festival, from Oct. 12 to 15.
The Authors in the Schools program buys the presenting authors' books for 16 elementary and secondary schools in Squamish, Whistler, Pemberton and the Lil'wat Nation.
One-hour presentations will take place in various host schools throughout the corridor, with students from visiting schools being bussed in to join them.
Audain Youth Art Challenge launch
The Audain Art Museum is launching a Youth Art Challenge from 6 to 7:30 p.m. as part of the BC Culture Days provincial launch on Thursday, Sept. 28.
Artists aged 13 to 18 are invited to participate in a live art challenge, having an hour to create a work of art. Materials will be provided by the Audain, and the young artists will be encouraged to explore a variety of mediums.
The completed pieces will be on display throughout BC Culture Days, from Sept. 28 to Oct. 1.

Summit Lodge art competition
Summit Lodge Boutique Hotel is holding EightyOne: The Meeting Space art competition, in association with the Audain Art Museum.
There are two competition options; in the first participants will have two weeks to submit a piece associated with a theme. This can be a new piece or one already completed.
In the second competition, artists have five hours to create a piece of art based on a theme. This event is open to spectators and takes place at the hotel on Saturday, Sept. 30.
